Babji ložič reserve
Who are we
Babji ložič is a protected forest reserve located in the immediate vicinity of Ljutomer. This old-growth forest consists of centuries-old oaks and hornbeams, snags and fallen dead wood, and will make you believe you’re standing in the middle of a rainforest. The reserve lies between the Mura and the Drava biosphere reserves and is home to great bird diversity. The total number of all bird species is estimated to be just below one hundred.
Walking through the Babji ložič forest is quite an adventure, particularly in summer, as the dense foliage overhead provides a tropical effect just a stone’s throw from the bustling town – a feature not too common for European cities.
